In 2019, the Premier Ultimate League was formed with eight teams.

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the 2021 season only featured six of the 12 teams. In 2022, the league returned in full capacity, splitting the 12 teams into three divisions: East, Midwest, and South.

In December 2022, the Medellin Revolution announced their departure from the PUL to join the newly-established Latin American league, Latam Pro, and the PUL welcomed the Philadelphia Surge to the East Division.

Philadelphia Surge

For 2024, the league featured 11 teams but returned to a two division model: North and South. The Columbus Pride took a brief hiatus after announcing they would not return for 2025.

In June 2024, Columbus Pride announced they would dissolve. The PUL opened applications for an expansion team. On November 12, 2024, the league announced the addition of the Los Angeles Astra to the PUL South Division.
